Our owner, Tom Jernigan, started hunting in South Alabama as a child with his father. Tom grew up and moved away to start a family and many business ventures but his passion for hunting brought him back to the area many years later. As owner of Black Ridge Land Company, Tom has had many interactions with conservation efforts and became involved in conservation organizations such as the Alabama Wildlife Federation and Ducks Unlimited on a national level. In 2009 Tom purchased property in Marengo County Alabama and Sugar Foot Farms was born. In 2020 the opportunity arose to sell that property and purchase another much larger property, previously owned by Mr. Harold Ridgeway, moving Sugar Foot Farms to Perry County. Oddly enough Mr. Ridgeway had worked with Tom‘s father in Birmingham many years ago. Mr. Ridgeway spent close to 25 years developing this property solely for quail hunting, he even put up a high fence for the purpose of keeping his hunting dogs safe inside the property. Tom knew that with a little extra effort the new Sugar Foot Farms would become an upland game hunting paradise and so Sugar Foot Preserve was created and will further build on and honor the conservation goals of Mr. Ridgeway's legacy.
Scott Holmes was born and raised in central Lowndes County. He grew up on a farm and has always had a passion for the great outdoors. He is a member of CCA, AWF, NRA, NWTF, and Ducks Unlimited.
